What is a UTM link?
A UTM link is your normal link with extra parameters, such as utm_source and utm_medium. When someone clicks it, analytics tools like Google Analytics record which source, medium and campaign the visit came from.
Which UTM parameters do I need?
Source and medium are the basics. Campaign names the promotion, and content separates posts or links inside it. Term is mostly for paid search keywords and can stay empty.
What should I use as source and medium for social posts?
Use the network as the source, for example instagram or linkedin, and social as the medium. The quick-fill buttons set both for you.
Does a UTM tag change my page or hurt SEO?
It only adds parameters to the link. Your page stays the same, and the tag does not change how the page looks. Use UTM tags on links you share, not on links between pages of your own site.
What is a campaign URL builder?
A campaign URL builder adds tracking parameters to a link, such as utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign. This tool is one: you enter the link and the values, and it returns a tagged link you can copy.
